Founded in 1975, Bishop Challoner Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided Secondary School serves the Catholic communities of Basingstoke, Tadley, Andover, Hook and all the villages in that area.[1] Located in South Ham, Basingstoke and Hampshire in England, the school offers education to students aged 11 to 16 in a Christian context.

There are about 640 students on roll[2] and some 124 places are offered each year to Year 6 pupils, mainly from three Catholic primary schools: St Annes, (Basingstoke), St Bedes (Basingstoke) and St John the Baptist (Andover).

In recent years the school has begun redevelopment of many of the facilities including the construction of a new library and a radio station. A new Sports Hall is also currently under construction[3] and a new music facility is planned following the awarding of Specialist Mathematics and Computing College status in July 2010.[4]

Religious Links

Bishop Challoner School is known for its close relationship with 'St. Josephs Catholic Church' and the diocese of Portsmouth. They show their close relationship with the church through their teaching methods and their ethos. The students also regularly visit religious buildings and places such as when the Year 7 pupils generally go on a pilgrimage in October. Mass is regularly attended by the pupils such as on the Bishop Challoner Feast Day, also, mass is sometimes attended in the schools individual tutors or houses. The houses are named after the Christian SaintsBenedict, Anthony, Francis, Gregory (Year 7 Only) and Dominic.

Unlike many nearby schools Bishop Challoner has RE as a GCSE core subject, showing the school's Religious connections
